Shaw Theatres launches new cinema at nex (Serangoon Central)
  • Brings a touch of luxury and pampering to the suburban community
  • Has most number of 3D halls at one location
  • Introduces “Premiere Screen” concept with two halls
Singapore, 30 November 2010 - Shaw Theatres will impress cinema-goers with many "firsts". when its new cinema at nex starts screenings on 2 December 2010: the most number of 3D digital halls at one location; premium halls at a suburban district; 3D digital technology for premium halls; and dedicated in-cinema lift for the handicapped.

Occupying a space of 3,700 square metres, Shaw Theatres nex will have 10 halls and a seating capacity of 1,265 seats.

Although located in a suburban mall, Shaw Theatres is investing and equipping six out of the 10 halls with digital technology with five being 3D digital halls! Shaw Theatres nex will boast the most number of 3D halls at any single cinema location.

At nex, Shaw Theatres will also introduce the “Premiere Screen” concept – halls that provide a premium cinematic experience to consumers.

With deluxe leather seats and premium dine-in services within a cosy hall of 48 seats, the Premiere Screen halls at nex will bring an element of luxury to the doorstep of suburban residents.

Targeting a discerning audience, Premiere Screen will be the first premium halls to feature 3D digital technology. Details on the two Premiere Screen halls at nex will be announced at a later date.

Mr Mark Shaw, Executive Vice President of Operations, said: "nex's position as a major suburban mall well-connected by public transport makes it an attractive venue, hence our significant investment at this location. We are equipping five halls with 3D digital technology. There is no other cinema with as many 3D halls in one location. To complement the strong emphasis on technology, the new Shaw Theatres. design is clean and contemporary. Our open-concept Box Office is designed to bring us closer to our patrons.”

He added: “When designing Premiere Screen, we had a specific target audience in mind.

It is a segment yet to be targeted by any other players in the market. It is a unique value proposition for residents of suburban areas who desire added comfort while catching a movie.”

Shaw Theatres nex will also feature a new and exciting in-cinema advertising concept. There will be a Mega Canvas with Panasonic's 103-inch as the centerpiece and 6 x 50-inch screens with living posters display, The Mega Canvas has pixels that make up to more than 3 HD screens.

Mr Christopher Shaw, Executive Vice President of Film Distribution, shared: “The digital poster displays offer a novel way to publicise movies and keep movie-goers excited on upcoming lineup. With 10 screens and five with 3D technology, we will be able to bring in a greater variety of movies. Patrons at nex will not only be able to watch blockbusters, but also selected critically acclaimed titles.”

He also added, “In addition, all 10 halls at Shaw Theatres nex will have two allocated lots for wheelchairs. There is also a dedicated in-cinema lift to cater to the needs of the disabled to bring them from the box-office to the cinema hall level.”
